How to Start Your Own Profitable Online Business

December 3rd, 2007 Rob Posted in Online Business Ideas No Comments »

To start your own successful business is the declared aim of about 70% of American families. This figure is similar to many Western countries. So… So how do you start a successful business? What are the steps, secrets involved in achieving the sort of economic independence that so many of us desire?

My preferred route to start a home business is to start an on line business. There is more. The reasons being that the start-up costs are minimal compared with an offline bricks & mortar enterprise. And so… So if it’s not a success, you can attempt something else on line without losing a lot of money.

So what kind of on line home business can you start? There’re a few options available.

1. Sell items on eBay.

2. Promote affiliate products.

3. Sell your own product - physical or digital.

4. Refer some one else’s business & collect

refer’s fees.

None of these methods are simple even though all of them are achievable. The method you select will depend on your personality & interests & experience. By example, some one interested in rabbits could use that knowledge to promote affiliate products related to rabbits or start their own product & sell it themselves.

Once you decide what to sell, you really need to educate yourself on the methods used to generate traffic & convert sales. This is often the hardest & most overlooked part of setting up an on line business.

Then you need a website to show the world that you exist online. This is best done by using a website editor package where the website building & hosting & site submission are all included for a set fee paid monthly or annually. The advantage is that you save designer fees. You also have control over the web site. By example, you can make a quick change to your site yourself without having to contact your web designer. Some packages include blogging facilities & eBook publishing software as part of the deal.

So there you are, that is the basic route available to start any on line business. However, it’s only a map & you must make the journey yourself by taking action & this is what stops most people from achieving anything. Do you follow? To learn the business, you have to get going & inevitably make some mistakes all the way. As long as you learn from these mistakes, it’s still a step to your ultimate goal.

How To Start An Online Business For Maximum Profits

November 27th, 2007 Rob Posted in Online Business Ideas No Comments »

Starting an on line business is one of the easiest businesses you can start. But a major obstacle facing most people starting an on line business is the failure to understand how to reach potential customers on the Internet. Without customers coming to your website & purchasing your products & services, you make no money.

It is a lot more hard to get customers to a website, let alone getting them to trust you in order to make a purchase. So, the first thing you must realize is that advertising with an on line business is a little different from advertising with an offline business.

With an offline business, you can attract customers using classified ads & display ads in newspapers, magazines, tabloids, card decks, through television & radio commercials & infomercials, through the U.S. mail mailing lengthy sales letters, catalogs, information booklets, flyers, business cards, post cards, etc.

With an on line business, how you reach potential customers is a little different because of the way in which customers come to your website. The average visitor comes to your website mainly through the search engines when searching for information on specific topics.

There are ways other than search engines through which visitors come to your website. But for the most part, they will come to your website through the search engines while searching for information on a particular topic using keywords & phrases.

The number of searches associated with specific keywords on a topic or niche, reveal to you the level of demand for that niche, & the level of demand for certain products & services for that specific area or niche.

What that basically means is, in order to build an on line business for maximum profit:

1) You must become skilled at building lists of keywords & phrases you think people use when searching on specific topics or niches.
2) You must have a big enough market to sell to. Therefore, select those keywords in a particular area or niche that have at least 10,000 searches.
3) Based closely on your selection of keywords & phrases, start an on line business selling a product or service in your keyword area or niche.
4) Make sure you start an on line business in niches that you’re interested in. If you’re passionate about your area of business, you have a greater chance of success.

You really can make a lot of money with an on line business. But just like an offline business, you must know how to reach the right market with the right product & with the right message.

Understanding how to reach potential customers online, building your business around the right keywords, & selling products related to those keywords, can put you on the road to success rapidly when starting an on line business.

Promote Online Businesses - Learn 3 Great Ways

November 21st, 2007 Rob Posted in Online Business Ideas No Comments »

In this article we will be talking about 3 great ways to promote on line businesses. There’re so many great ways out there to promote on line businesses but for the sake of keeping this article short & not overwhelming you with too many options I’m just going to talk about the 3 ways to promote on line businesses that I find to work very well & are easy to implement.

One great way to promote on line businesses is to post on forums. Find forums that specialize in the niche of your on line business & find discussions that you know some things about. Now when posting on forums the important thing to remember is that you can not advertise your website in the body of the forum. Your goal when posting on a forum is to give people useful information on that topic then put the link to your website in your signature. If you give good info people will look at you as a reputable source & click on your webpage if they want to know more. Plus the more postings you do the more links you’ll have leading people back to your website. Posting on forums is a great FREE way to promote your on line businesses.

The second great way to promote on line businesses is to promote your on line business off line through the use of direct mail. Now your probably wondering why you would go threw the expense of creating materials & postage when you could do it cheaper online. But the reason you do this is because you’ll not have as much competition. The key to promoting your on line businesses off line is to buy a mailing list of people who have shown interest in the niche you’re trying to promote. Then create postcards advertising your website sense they’re cheaper & people are more likely to read them. Make sure in your postcard you give people a good reason to go straight to your website & give you their email. A very good way to do this is too offer something for free like a report, newsletter or eBook. Because your competition is lower & you’re able to do more targeted marketing it’s a great way to promote on line businesses.

Last but not least a great way to promote on line businesses is to create viral reports about the niche you’re marketing. The reason that they’re called viral reports is because hey will spread through the internet like a virus. And the reason you want them to do this is because all of them will have a link back to your websites. The key to getting your reports to spread all over the internet like a virus is to have good info in the report & to give it away for free & give other people permission to give the report away for free. That is why creating viral reports is one of the greatest ways to promote on line businesses.

I hope you enjoyed learning 3 great ways to promote on line businesses. The greatest way though to promote on line businesses is to take action. Get your on line businesses started & start marketing!

Here’s to your success!

Online Home Business - Select Products That People Will Use

November 15th, 2007 Rob Posted in Online Business Ideas No Comments »

If you’re like most people doing on line home business, then you’re probably sick & tired of asking people for hundreds of dollars $ per month to purchase product of which 95% of them will never sell or use themselves.

When I originally started my on line home business, the part that I hated was to ask friends & neighbors to join me as members & sell the products. Clear? I was sick & tired of asking people to buy the products that 99.99% of them will never get sold or can not actually be used by the people who possess them.

In the beginning, I bought myself 100s of junk products that I thought I’ll be easily able to sell or find subscribers to it… Now they’re in my back yard shed, collecting dust. I’m talking about some stupid vitamins, household items, & what not. I found out that they were overpriced & no body really used them.

The part of the problem in this industry is most products are not affordable & they’re not being used regularly in order for customers to keep coming back. This is why long-time on line home business marketers often become fed-up & failed.

In order to be successful, especially in on line home business, you need products that customers will actually use & will have to come back again & again month after month. The products have to be affordable. You can not expect people to buy products that are overpriced. People know when a product is over priced.

The things I’ll look for before I jump into spending marketing dollars $ for any product in my on line home business are: The product should be usable by the population, reasonably priced monthly payment to subscribe or to order, no shipping involved no hidden costs, no employees needed.

Another point I wanted to make is this- affordability has different meaning to different consumers. For this reason affordability depends on to which customer group you’re marketing to. Like one of the products that I’m selling is domain names. It’s not that expensive. I target that mostly to ordinary population. On the other hand I also sell internet marketing tools for on line home businesses. There is more. They are not that cheap. What I’m getting at is affordability depends up on the products & to whom you’re targeting the products.

There are 600 million Internet users, & more & more people daily are using their own web sites as a way to promote their on line home business. Clear? I suggest you spend time on your research, come up with a product or products that p3eople are already searching for at a great price, & offers an outstanding business opportunity.

I urge you to do your research to get a better understanding of how to get started in Online Home Business.

A Jaw Dropping Way To Jumpstart Your Online Business

November 9th, 2007 Rob Posted in Online Business Ideas No Comments »

Do you know that there is an easy way to jump-start your on line business? Simply by using an expired domain name, you should already have an established web presence in the search engines & a regular stream of traffic. Do you know that expired domains get millions of visitors each & every day?

If you’re thinking to start an on line business & are planning to register ® a new domain to start promoting your website, you should know about this mind blowing way. It’s all about using the value of using expired domain names.

Some fact you should know about expired domain name. And so… So far so good. When a domain is registered ® for a year. & the original domain registrant doesn’t pay for the renewal by the end of that period, the domain will expire & will then be available to whoever would like to purchase it.

There are advantages for going with an expired domain over registering a new one. The best part about an expired domain name is that the website usually already has its own existing traffic. Often an expired domain will already have numerous back links (i.e. What are back links? They are links on other websites that point to this website). As most of the expired domains already have a Google Page Rank value & had indexed in most of the major search engines, it will be very good if you can purchase an expired domain name that has back links. There is more. This will certainly helps to have a significant head start on gaining traffic to your new website.

When registering a new domain name, no one knows about your website. None of your listings are listed in the search engines. You need to spend much effort to get your website listed & constantly promote it.

On the other hand, when you purchase an expired domain name, you may not need to work as hard as most part was done for you… However, you’ll still have to continue to promote your website & get the appropriate backlinks.

In other words, you’ll be taking advantage of the work that some one else has already done to promote the website when you purchase an expired domain..

One thing you really need to do here is to find out what expired domain you would like to purchase & how well the domain is doing in the search engines. You can do a quick check of the backlinks & the Page Rank. At the same time, you should check with Alexa to see what sort of traffic the site is getting.

Most of the time there’re legitimate reasons for a domain expiring. It could be the original owner has lost interest in their site or did not have the time to manage it… There’re also cases that a domain name expires because the original registrant is deceased. Rarely, a domain is allowed to expire because the website has been banned by search engines. You can do a quick check by just do a Google search for the domain name & see what comes up. If you see listings you can rest assured that the domain hasn’t been banned.

Outsourcing Tips for the New Online Business Owner

October 29th, 2007 Rob Posted in Online Business Ideas 1 Comment »

You can not go anywhere on line these days without hearing the word ‘outsourcing’. When you see a successful internet marketer saying that word, do you roll your eyes & think, ‘yeah, that is all well & good for you, but?. I can not afford it!’

If your on line business is new or you have not reached your income goals yet, you may decide that outsourcing is out of your reach. I know because I used to think that way, but I rapidly got over it! I have discovered a couple of creative ways to go about getting help with your business, even at the start.

Firstly, let me share a couple of the benefits I have found from outsourcing. One of the greatest ones is the impetus it gives me to work hard in my business.

For example, let us say I hire a VA to add articles to a site. I have paid her & she’s done the work, now I’m compelled to go in & do MY work, which is to edit & slightly rewrite the content to give it my voice. I also make the content more search engine friendly & add my affiliate links or other call to action. The fact that I have already invested in the project means that I am highly motivated to start recouping my investment.

Secondly, we all know that as self employed people, it is all too easy to procrastinate. If I feel myself putting something off that I know will move my business forward, I outsource all or part of it… That gets me over the motivational ‘hump’ & once I can see the project taking shape, I am excited about making it a success.

So, to quote Nacho Libre, ‘let’s get down to the neeety greety’. How DO you outsource when your business is just barely making a profit?

Use Found Money
Can you list some stuff on eBay or Amazon.com to earn an extra $20 or so this week? You were not counting on that money so why not use it to get rid of some of those business tasks you dread?

Barter
Do you know a VA who is just starting her business who might trade an hour or two of her services for a rockin’ good testimonial posted to your blog, website or newsletter? Do you offer advertising on your site? Maybe you could advertise for her in exchange for some of her time. Do you have a product for sale? Maybe you could trade out your offerings. Ditto for service businesses. Let us say you have a talent for some aspect of internet marketing, say, graphic design. Maybe you could do your VA’s new web set & she can do some SEO on your content site. Get creative.

What Do You Hate?
If there is something that is necessary to your business but that you absolutely hate doing, take a leap of faith & outsource that one task first. The renewed energy you have now that you do not have to do that dreaded job will likely pay off bigtime. Build your business on your strengths. Clear? If you are a great writer, write lots of articles & ecourses & info products. Clear? If you hate updating a content site, outsource that… Do the stuff that you love that makes you the most money in the least time. Remember the 80/20 rule?

Child Labor
Just kidding of course! But seriously, just the other week on Wahm Talk Radio, CPA Kristine McKinley shared that the Tax Man allows you to pay your kids & reduce your taxable income. Did you know that a child in elementary school can be taught how to copy & paste articles into your blog? Ask me how I know!

I hope these few tips help you get excited about outsourcing. One final tip: Commit to spending the freed up time on a *high leverage* activity. Don’t waste it… Ok? And do not say ‘I can not afford it’. Say ‘HOW can I afford it?’

5 Reasons Online Businesses Are Better Than Real Estate

October 23rd, 2007 Rob Posted in Online Business Ideas 1 Comment »

It seems like only yesterday. You could not turn on the television or read a newspaper without seeing how wonderful the housing market was.

Anyone with a heartbeat & a credit score was investing in real estate. Unfortunately, these same people are finding that houses do not always appreciate in value.

I have been on the inside of both internet marketing & investing in real estate. I’ve come to one conclusion. Internet marketing - whether it’s affiliate marketing, selling on ebay, drop shipping or whatever on line business program - beats real estate investing hands down.

1. Financial Investment

Online Business Program(OBP) ? The money it takes to start an on line business is very little, if any. There’re strategies available that will not ever cost you a penny. Depending on what you’re wanting to do, a typical on line business can start anywhere from zero to a couple hundred dollars.

Real Estate(RE) ? The no money down days of real estate investing or first purchasing a home are basically over. You’ll spend many thousand dollars $ before you even sniff the keys. After you fork over your savings you’re then tied to a monthly payment that is in the hundreds or thousands of dollars $ plus insurance, taxes & any maintenance needed. You are obligated to repay the borrowed money whether your tenant pays or not.

2. Income

OBP ? If a customer does not pay, they will not receive your product. Period.

RE ? One or two tenants, over the course of history, have been known not to pay their rent. Your customer(tenant) has your product(house). Not a whole lot you can do other than evict. Evictions are expensive & time consuming. Depending on your state, evictions can take many months. There is more. That means many months with no payment. Don’t forget you still have a monthly mortgage to pay.

3. Flexibility

OBP ? If after some time you come to the conclusion that the on line business program you chose is not making any money your options are limitless. You can tweak your sales page, search engine optimize your website, repackage your product, etc. You can even just hit the delete button a few times & be done completely.

RE ? If you come to that same conclusion with your investment property, good luck. Selling a house is costly. There’re realtor commissions, closing costs & any repairs needed to name a few. With the downturn in the market, most places are looking at an average of at least 3 months listing. Oh yeah, you still have to come up with a monthly mortgage payment.

4. Market

OBP ? Your market is the WORLD. Anyone with access to a computer & internet is a potential customer.

RE ? Whether you’re renting your house out or flipping, your customer base is limited to the area the house is in or some one wanting to move to that area.

5. Management

OBP ? Managing your on line business is as easy or in depth as you want. You can sell ebooks & have it completely automated. Customer buys ebook then is taken automatically to the download. You can set it up & forget about it.

RE ? Don’t get me started on managing an investment property. Repairs, maintenance, dealing with tenants. Even if you think you might hire a property manager, you’ll have to manage him/her. I’ve witnessed many horror stories of property managers stealing rents & allowing the home to fall into disrepair.

People can & do make money with investment properties. But, as you can see from the list above, real estate investing is a major commitment of time & money… This is a burden on many people who listen to the so called gurus & find themselves stuck with a property with no way out. Many find real estate investing just is not their cup of tea. Which is fine but getting out can be just as hard as getting in.

Find an on line business program that is right for you… You’ll find the income potential & flexibility second to none.

Planning & Tracking the Success of Your Online Business

October 17th, 2007 Rob Posted in Online Business Ideas No Comments »

One of the most hard things to do when you start a new business is putting together a financial plan & keeping track of your progress.

Without any financial history on which to base income & expenses, it may seem like speculation, but as part of any business plan a careful budget can be established with some thought & expectation for the future.

In most businesses there’re two main categories:

1. Income
2. Expense

Under your expense category there can be many sub-categories often falling into two main areas: controllable expenses & uncontrollable.

While many business owner claim they can control every expense involved in their business, they’re simply kidding themselves. So… Some expenses are nearly impossible to control, example: utility cost, rent, & other so-called fixed costs

Other expenses such as payroll, insurance & advertising can be subject to a budget, but they’re considered controllable expenses.

If the business begins to fall off, you can control some of these expenses by cutting back on advertising or in other areas of the business.

However, living by a budget will help maintain profitability in many aspects but can also turn against you in the long run.

Depending on your priorities, often is a better investment to cut advertisement & still provide good customer service to the remaining customers until business picks back up.

To help you maintain control over your budget & profitability from the beginning of your on line business, it’s imperative to understand how effective your advertisement is. Understanding what your visitors do on your site is crucial for your business.

If a large majority of your visitors who proceed to purchase a product leave the site when they get to a specific page in the order process, you really need to know about it.

It could be that the page in question is confusing or hard to use. Fixing it could increase your sales. Clear? It’s not uncommon for small website changes in headlines & order processes to result in a big increase in sales.

There are many reasons why you want a detailed analysis of your site visitors.

Most website hosting services offer a stats package that you can study. Statistics are a vital part of tracking your marketing progress.

Do not get a counter that just shows how many visitors you have had. You will be missing out on information that can assist strengthen your site. The figures from this kind of analysis are the most accurate measure of your website’s activity.

It would appear on the outside that the more traffic you see recorded, the better you can presume your website is doing, but this is an erroneous opinion. You must also look at the conduct of your visitors once they come to your website to correctly determine the effectiveness of your site.

There is often a great misunderstanding about what’s normally known as “hits” & what really quality traffic to your site. Hits simply means the number of information requests received by the server.

If you think about the fact that a hit can simply compare to the number of graphics per page, you’ll get an idea  of how exaggerated the concept of hits can be.

For example, if your homepage has 10 graphics on it, the server records this as 10 hits, when in reality we’re talking about a single visitor inspecting out a single page on your site. As you can see, hits are not valuable in analyzing your website traffic.

The more visitors that come to your website, the more exact your explanation will become. The greater the traffic is to your website, the more defined your analysis will be of overall trends in visitor performance. The smaller the number of visitors, the more a few anomalous visitors can disfigure your study.

In conclusion, planning a budget & studying your statistics he right way & on a regular basis will allow you to keep your business on the positive side.
