List Building Tips - How To Use Forums To Build Your List

One way in which you can build your list involves using forums which cater to a specific audience that is related to the topic of your newsletter or ezine so that you can take part in discussions & send visitors to your squeeze page.

There are thousands of forums on the internet in a wide variety of niche markets so you should be easily able to find a place to advertise no matter what the topic of your list is about. All you have to do is look for relevant forums in the search engines & you’ll rapidly find a list of places where you can advertise.

Most forums will allow you to place a link to your website under each post that you make as a reward for participating in the discussions with other users. There is more. To make it easier for you & to save time you can also create a signature file in your account so that your link is automatically inserted in your posts.

Depending on how active the forum is, there should be many different discussions going on at the same time so you should be easily able to rapidly get involved. If you have no previous experience of using forums its best to just reply to existing posts & answer questions that other users have submitted. The search engines are searching for fresh content so if your thread becomes very active with many new posts being made you’ll rapidly attract their attention (you should also include a keyword phrase in the title of your thread to help your rankings).

While forums can take up a lot of time & are not as effective as other list building strategies they should still be used as part of your overall marketing campaign. If used correctly you can add a constant stream of new subscribers to your list by participating in discussions.

List Building Via Google Adwords

Google was the first company to make serious money out of selling advertising services on the Internet, with a service called Google AdWords. Prior to AdWords, the basic model of advertising on the internet was based off of the display rate & frequency. You paid a certain amount per thousand impressions, & it ran like magazine advertising.

Google AdWords changed this; you only paid for the display of your advertising that a customer clicked on. AdWords, coupled with Google’s search engine popularity, redefined marketing on the Internet. The other major benefit (beyond a nearly unheard of “Pay for what’s actually gotten”) is that AdWords tend to get targeted searchers.

Making AdWords work for you is a little bit trickier, as an affiliate marketer. You want the clicks to hit your web site, not your vendor’s web site; you want the customer to go through your squeeze page (a simple form that asks them for their email address) before directing them through your affiliate link to your vendor’s site. To make this work in your favor, you have to understand how AdWords work.

First, pick AdWords that are short - one to three words, tops. Don’t forget to pick a couple of common mis-spellings of the word you are running with. Second, make certain that the place where the ‘pay per click’ advertising takes the customer is optimized for humans as much as it’s for Google’s search engine algorithm. In particular, a bare “squeeze page” will rapidly get your AdWord rates skyrocketing, because of how Google ranks pages & sorts by “relevant content”.

Next, make certain your content remains fresh. People are searching for information on the Internet, & you really need to provide enough information so that the person who hits your site feels that they have spent their time well. (This is also why it is important to have multiple vendors that you are affiliated with, so that you can run out new content every week to broadcast to people who’re already on your list.)
