There is More to Blogging Then Just Money

October 15th, 2007 Rob Posted in Blogging No Comments »

I have done about a weeks worth of research on blogging. I read 30 to 25 articles & numerous forum searches on blogging. Do you follow? There’re two points that amazed me as I myself did this research. One, most people using blogging for network marketing purposes think only about making money off of blogging. Second, how many network marketers are not using it.

Blogging first started out like a diary were you could type out your thoughts, & then it moved to more personnel interaction with your friends & companions. Clear? It’s now & will continue to move full steam as a new marketing tool for all types of business.

Just other quick note before we move onto the good stuff; these are rough numbers I calculated & have no scientific proof. There is 25 to 30% higher chance people will click on a link in a blog to your business opportunity. Some of my research had this percentage higher; I’ve a tough time believing it… My research also found that people where 10 to fifteen percent more likely to JOIN your business through a blog. Some, very interesting stats.

Here are some reasons I think these percentages are possible:

1) Simplicity
Blogging is FREE & easy to start. Anyone can do it! You start typing your thoughts just like using a pen & paper. How easy can it be? Anything that is free to a network marketer is GOLD. The blog sites are not intrusive to the reader. For the most part blog sites are just word content & nothing else which makes it easy to get your business information across. There is more. Thus you can keep the readers attention for longer.

2) Builds a Community
This is one area I feel most network marketers are missing. Do you follow? They can use there blog to communicate & help with duplication of their business through their blog. Most people are using to only promote products or their business. Right. What an easy way for your downline or current prospects to gain TRUST & RESPECT in you, when you have a simple & easy way to communicate & help them duplicate what you’re doing.

3) Builds Credibility
You are seen as the expert, the one with the most influence. This will allow other bloggers to add your link to their sites & an increase interest in your blog. Do you follow? This credibility takes time but it will be well worth the wait. Tip - To have this credibility develop quicker make certain you post every TWO days, if not every day!

Here are some quick tips on promoting your blog:

1) Blog daily this helps in Search Engine rankings
2) Visit other blogs & put your link in the message
3) Ping your blog after every entry
4) Submit your blog to blog submission sites
5) Put your blog URL in a your signature box

I hope you can have a slightly different few to why blogging is just more then to make money… If you establish the trust, respect & credibility, the money will come in hand over fist.

The Basics of Starting a Blog

October 9th, 2007 Rob Posted in Blogging No Comments »

Blogs are one of the hot ways to start a website right now. They allow visitors to interact with the site owner & to subscribe to a feed so that they can keep up with changes to the site & new information.

Blogs do not just have to be personal journals. Right. While they often do have more of a personal touch than many websites you do not have to share the very latest news about your family or your life. You can use your blog as a way to give that personal touch in a professional manner.

But blogging can be intimidating to people new to it… It is a new skill, & making your blog stand out a little is not always easy. Once you have the blog set up, how ever, it is incredibly easy to run one.

The Software

WordPress is probably the most popular blogging software. There’re very good reasons for this. Clear? It is free, pretty easy to use, lots of plugins & themes are available for it (more on these later), easy to make friendly to search engines, & many hosts offer one click installation of it.

The Basics of Optimization

A few basic steps should be taken to make your blog as search engine friendly as possible. One of the simplest is to set up your permalink structure correctly. In WordPress, the way to do this is to go straight to Permalinks under the Options menu. There’re many ways you can set up your permalinks, but my own preference is to set it simply as either /%postname%/ or /%category%/%postname%/. These structures give you more chances to get your keywords into your post URL.

You should work on the title displayed in your blog as well. There’re plugins that you can select to help with this. There is more. They make it very simple.

You should have a wide range of categories that you’ll be posting in. Don’t be afraid to add new ones over time. This helps to group your posts even more closely, & the categories can be included in your permalinks.

Choosing a Theme

A good theme does more than make your blog look pretty. It can sometimes be a part of your optimization strategy.

One of the first things you should check for in a WordPress theme is what it links to. Most themes will include a link to the designer, which is quite reasonable since they put in the work. But sometimes they add a lot of links. Clear? If you do not want those links it is probably not the theme for you… You can get rid of them, of course, but my own preference is to select a theme where I do not mind giving the designer their fair reward.

How well the theme is designed will have an impact on how the search engines view your website. A poorly designed one can make it more hard for the spiders to index your site.

Take Advantage of Feeds

The RSS feed is one of the biggest advantages that blogs have. The feed allows readers to subscribe to keep up with your blog. You do not have to do anything beyond post on your blog & keep them interested.

You should at the very least include a link to the RSS feed someplace prominent on your blog, but you can do more. I like to use Feedburner’s service so that I can keep track of subscribers & so that I can easily offer a range of links for easy subscription. Feedburner makes it easy for readers to subscribe by Google, Yahoo & other popular feed readers, or even by email for all those who are not sufficiently comfortable with RSS.

Getting things moving on the technical side of blogging is only the beginning. As you blog you’ll find yourself getting interested, reading other blogs in relevant areas & discovering new ways to make your blog interesting.

How to Turn Your Blog into a Money Making Machine

October 3rd, 2007 Rob Posted in Blogging No Comments »

Now that you have built a great looking blog & you are ready to start posting all about your favourite subject, the thought about how to make money from it must surely have crossed your mind. Being a brand new blog, you may think that there is no way you will be easily able to make money from it for ages, at least until you get it established & are given a decent page rank by the major search engines. But there’re ways of turning your new blog into a machine that will make money for you fairly rapidly whilst still working on the long term goal of creating a regular, sustainable income from it… Here is how to do it.

To start with, you should be highly motivated to work hard on your blog in order to attract as high a number of readers as possible in the shortest time & then keeping them coming back for more. To do that, you first have to have something that readers will want. That thing is content. Well-written, interesting & thought-provoking content will interest your readers & leave them wanting to return to read some more.

So your first time-consuming & demanding task is to get writing. It helps enormously if the subject of your blog is one that you hold a great interest in as well as being very knowledgeable about. Your posts will reflect your enthusiasm for the subject & their accurate & informative content will convince your readers that you do indeed know what you’re writing about.

Once you can establish yourself as an authority on your subject, word will spread through the communities of readers & that will generate more interest as time goes by. Good for the long term success of your blog but also good for its short term growth.

Once you have posted many of those well-written articles on your blog, you’ll be ready to begin to spread the word throughout the blogging community that you exist. There’re many on line blogging networks that you can sign-up for & start to make yourself & your blog known. Social networking sites like MyBlogLog & BlogCatalog are a good starting point & from there you’ll meet many bloggers who will direct you to still other networking communities.

Once you have become a member of some of these communities, you should create a fairly detailed & interesting profile of yourself. Next, make yourself busy by visiting other members’ blogs & home pages. Look at their blogs & see how they make money from them. Introduce yourself to the authors by posting messages for them & also posting comments on their blogs. There is more. These messages & posts should have some substance & especially be relevant to a blog post that you’re commenting on. To begin with, refrain from posting a links back to your blog. Do you follow? The authors you’re trying to make friends with will see this as spamming & will tend to ignore you… When they want to find you they can do that easily enough without you having to resort to spamming tactics.

This is a good lesson in learning to give before you receive but a necessary one to learn before you can even begin to make money from your blog.

Before too long, the community bloggers you have visited will come & visit your homepage to read your profile & look at your blog. Do you follow? This is the beginning of a growing stream of visitors that will come to your blog & if they find it interesting enough, they will return often to see what’s new on your blog.

Now you have established a stream of interested readers to your blog, it’s time to set about creating ways to make money from it.

If you have not already done this, then join up with some affiliate programs. Most of them can be signed-up with for free. And so… Some of the best ones include ‘Clickbank’, ‘Commission Junction’, ‘PayDotCom’ & ‘Amazon’. All of these affiliate sites will have lots of good products & services that you can advertise from your blog quite easily & you’ll make money by earning commissions from any sales that you generate from the visitors to your blog.

When you promote these affiliate resources, take some time & learn what each of them is about & what it does or can be often used for. Then write a short review on each product to maximise the potential for your visitors to want to click on your affiliate links to learn more. They will appreciate your going to the trouble of knowing something about the products you’re promoting, which could make the difference from a making that sale or not.

Other ways to make money from your blog are with Google ‘Adsense’. These are contextual ads that you can place on your blog to make money from every time a visitor clicks one of the links. Don’t go overboard on this, as each time a visitor clicks one of these links, they’re taken away from your blog to some one else’s site. Remember that you can make many dollars $ from an affiliate sale, but only a few cents from each click of an Adsense ad!

The best way to make money from your blog is by having your own product to sell & promoting it on your blog. Do you follow? This way, you get to keep all of the profits.

As your readership grows by your continued work in posting regularly & often & by continuing to take part in the social networking sites, your sales from your blog will naturally increase. By being in contact with other bloggers & making friends with as many of them as you can, you’ll be easily able to make link exchanges in order to improve your search engine ranking.

Then, after many months have passed & your blog is well & truly established, you’ll be easily able to make money in even greater amounts by attracting advertisers directly to your blog. Do you follow? There’re many sites that act as broker between advertisers & bloggers which allow you to post reviews for advertisers in return for being paid. The more popular & highly visited your blog, the more you’ll be easily able to earn from this source of income.

By following this plan of action, you can turn your new blog into a money making machine in a very short space of time. You’ll then be easily able to capitalise on that potential to make money as your blog grows in popularity, enabling you to really make money from your blog, day in & day out. As long as your enthusiasm for the subject of your blog remains high so too the money you make from your blog will keep flowing into your bank account.

Write a Successful Blog - Hot Tips on How You Can Start Writing a Blog Successfully

September 27th, 2007 Rob Posted in Blogging No Comments »

A blog or weblog is simply an on line diary that originated with people using it for a creative practice while also allowing others to leave comments on your topics at the same time. Blogging certainly is not hard, but blogging interestingly enough to attract readers & returning readers certainly is.

There are two things to consider before you trek into the blogosphere….

Finding a space to publish your blog…

There are many blogging sites out there right now, the most famous & free is blogger.com owned by Google. And so… Subscribing a blog is easy & you’re usually allowed to upload images, embed youtube videos (more on this later) & blogging sites usually provide you with tools to “beautify” & customize your blogs.

Finding a topic to blog about… You need to think up a theme on which you can blog about. Avoid the urge to blog about things too general as this will sometimes cause the readers to lose interest, that is unless you’re some kind of celebrity writing to your fans. A blog with a centralized theme with be well received & you’re also assured of attracting the right audience to your blog. While writing a blog isn’t an exact science but there’re certain rules & guidelines you can follow to improve your blogging experience. Below are just some blogging tips which I learnt & I hope you too can benefit from my experience.

  • Keeping it natural

Your blog is a way of conveying your ideas & opinions. There is more. Try not to write it in too formal a manner like you’re writing a report or it may turn readers off. One thing I found was that readers love a conversational style of writing.

  • Captivating Headlines

Headlines may be one of the most significant components in your blog posts. There is more. This is because an eye catching headline relevant to the topic will immediately capture the attention of the readers & make them want to find out more by reading the body of the post. A mundane headline on the other hand has the opposite effect. You can check out the top newspapers to see how they do their headlines.

  • Keeping your entries simple & concise

Get your point across in an interesting but concise manner. If you have a long entry, break up the text with paragraphs. Using images that is relevant to what you’re talking about is always a good idea. Take note to edit the image’s size so that it fits well into the general layout of your blog. Do you follow? Too much droning makes your blog boring. Also remember that you’re publishing to the entire world. Some slang, expressions, acronyms may not actually be understood by people from other countries. So… So, it’s important to either keep to internationally accepted expressions, or if you have to use a slang/acronym, take the time to explain what you mean in brackets next to it.

  • Staying on Topic

While I had previously mentioned that you should blog interestingly, I’ve to warn you of the risk of “drifting” or moving off topic. Some times we get all caught up & get sidetracked to another topic, even though eventually we get back on track, this sidetracking may leave a bad  taste in your readers’ mouth.

  • Being Informative

As mentioned previously, there is a need to add value to your blog, so that your readers actually find they learn something new. If you’re going to offer links, give more information about them instead of just putting them up. Give each link or group of links a little paragraph of information to catch the reader’s interest.

  • Blogging often

Many bloggers lack the discipline to blog often. Stick to a schedule. If you’re comfortable with blogging everyday, then make it a habit to do so by working it into your daily schedule. If you blog once a week, that is fine too, just make certain it’s on a regular basis, like on every Friday. That way, your loyal readers will also know when to expect the next update & when to check back. A often updated blog will also mean the search engines will spider the pages at regular intervals.

  • Keyword & relevance

Search engines look for relevance to a topic & density of keywords. Clear? If you blog with alot of relevancy to your main theme of your website & include alot of keywords at the same time, you can be sure to boost your blog’s visibility or ranking in a search. Think like your readers & what kind of keywords they would likely use & use them appropriately in your headlines & body text.

  • Preparing your blogs in Word document/notepad

Personally, I would recommend that you type the text into a Word document first then transfer over to the blog. Do you follow? That way, you can work offline & at the same time use the Word tools such as spell check & word count. OK. Spell checking your text especially is very important. It doesn’t take too long to do this & it can save you the embarrassment later. Transferring over to the blog from the document also gives you the flexibility to edit & change the arrangement of images, links, & video to achieve the best possible flow.

  • Maintaining a Writing Style

Every successful blogger has his/her own style. And so… Search for the typing style you’re most comfortable with & stick with it… This way, your readers can know what to expect & build a sense of closeness to your blog.

  • Proof Reading

I always like to read & re-read my offline & on line copies of any document, blog entry I wrote. You can then trim away stuff you do not need, check for continuity & flow & spelling errors before pasting it into your blog. Put yourself in your readers’ shoes, is what you blogged something that would interest you & your readers in general?

  • The Aesthetics

It would be a shame if no one reads your blog not because it doesn’t have good information but because of just the way it’s presented. The layout of your blog should be pleasant to the eye & the colors should not actually be contradicting. By example, do NOT use red text on a blue background or dark text on a dark background on your blog. Do you follow? Those really chase the visitors away even before the blog page is done loading! Use indenting & paragraphing appropriately to make your blog readable. Use bullet lists in your blog wherever possible because they’re the easiest to read.

If you have always wanted to be successful in writing a blog, I hope the above tips on blog writing are helpful. Writing a blog can be a very fun & fulfilling experience if you know how to do it right.
