Adsense - Make Adsense Make Cents

If you have not heard of Adsense yet do not worry, I will catch you up with the rest of the world. Adsense is an advertising network powered by Google, which rotates ads on your webpage. You earn commission every time some one clicks on the ad. The commission per click is usually just small change, but with large amounts of traffic could add up to great income. The key to being successful with Adsense along with high traffic volume is superb ad placement.

A common problem many Adsense users have is finding a good spot on their page to place the ads. Many webmasters are worried that if they place it in the wrong spot it may annoy visitors. I’ll tell you from my experience do not worry about that… No matter where you put Adsense it’s going to annoy your visitors. I have found the most annoying places are where I get the most clicks.

The most effective Adsense placement for me has always been at the very bottom of the page. At first thought that sounds backwards. It would seem logical to place the Adsense at the very top of the page where every visitor is sure to see it… Different webmasters have different experiences with Adsense placements, but for me I have gotten the most clicks at the bottom of the page.

My theory is when people visit your site they’re going to read some content. Many times people visit a webpage with intent. They may be searching for certain information, or just checking to see if you updated with new content. Visitors tend to not leave a webpage until they have found what they’re looking for. When some one reads your page they end at the bottom. Usually this means they have finished obtaining the information they were in search of. Now they may be ready to leave your page, & the Adsense at the bottom is staring them right in the face.

What I like about Adsense is that you can have them in multiple places on your webpage, so often times I put them at the top & the bottom. I rarely take up space on my sidebar to put Google Adsense. I rather use that space for direct advertising. I have seen some blogs that place them in every post. I have even witnessed them being placed in the middle of a post. I really hate those for the simple fact I do not foresee many people clicking away from a page while in the middle of reading great content.

Test a few different placements to find out which position generates the most clicks. After gathering the data make a decision on where you want to place Adsense. I suggest doing this not just with Adsense, but with all your advertisements. You want to locate the position on your page with the highest CTR (Click Through Rate). I tend to charge advertisers the most for that position due to its high CTR.
